Jasprit Bumrah Crowned ICC Test Player of the Year 2024
The Indian star bowler Jasprit Bumrah became the ICC Test Player of the Year for 2024. He became the first Indian pacer to win this award. In the year 2024, he performed exceptionally well in test cricket, where he took 71 wickets in just 13 games. This performance helped to win the biggest yearly award of the test cricket.
Bumrah in 2024:
The year 2024 was no short of a dream year for Bumrah. In just 13 games played in the year 2024, he has taken 71 wickets. By doing so, he became the 4th Indian bowler to take 70+ wickets in a calendar year. He has joined the club of top bowlers like Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and R. Ashwin, who also did this in the past for India.
In the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), Bumhah took 32 wickets. This top-class bowler performance helped him to win the award of Player of the Tournament, despite India losing the series. After making a comeback at the end of 2023, he has never looked out of form.
In the BGT series, he also crossed the mark of 200 test wickets and became the only 12th Indian to achieve this feat. However, if we talk about the average, then he is the only player to take 200 wickets with an average of 19.4, the lowest among all.
ICC Players of the Year Awards:
- Along with Bumrah, Smirit Mandhana too won the ICC award this year for India. She won the best ODI Player of the Year for the third time.
- Afghanistan’s player Azmatullah won the same award in the Men’s category.
- Arshdeep Singh, who played an important role in India’s 2024 World Cup victory, won the Men’s T20I Player of the Year.
- Melie Kerr, the star all-rounder of New Zealand won T20I Player of the Year awards in the women’s category.
- The young talent of Sri Lanka, Kamindu Mendis was named the Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
- Umpire Richard Illingworth, for his brilliant umpiring throughout the year won him the Umpire of the Year award.
