India made history at Edgbaston, winning here for the first time—their eighth match at this ground after six losses and a draw. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, India posted 1,014 runs across both innings and restricted England to chase a modest target in their second innings.

Day 1

After losing the toss, India came to bat, but could not start well. Opener Rahul was out on the score of just 2 runs. Jaiswal and Nair played well after this wicket, and did an 80-run partnership for 2nd wicket. Jaiswal scored 87 while Nair made 31 runs. The captain Gill scored a century on Day 1. By the end of the day, India were 310/5, with Gill unbeaten on 114 and Jadeja on 41. The foundation was well laid for a massive total.

Day 2

India accelerated rapidly on Day 2. Gill and Jadeja added a 200+ stand—the latter making 89 before Sundar came in for a 42-run cameo. Gill advanced to 269 before being dismissed. Lower-order contributions took India to a huge 587. In reply, Akash Deep took two early wickets, and England slumped to 77/3, trailing by 510 runs at the stumps.

Day 3

England continued to fight back, with Brook and Smith both reaching centuries. But an Indian bowling resurgence led by Siraj wrapped up England’s first innings at 407. India then posted a quick 64-odd runs on the loss of 1 wicket by the end of the day.

Day 4

India kept on scoring at a good pace. On Day 4, the team has made 400+ runs and set a target of 608 runs. Gill again scored a daddy hundred (161 runs) in the second innings. The team also took 3 wickets of England by the end of the day.

Day 5

On Day 5, England tried to save the game; however, the lethal bowling of Siraj and Akash Deep, the team kept losing their wickets. The team got all out on the score of 271 runs, and India won the game by 336 runs.
