Yashasvi Jaiswal Seeks NOC to Shift from Mumbai to Goa – A Big Move or a Hurry?

The young talent of the Indian cricket team, Yashasvi Jaiswal wants to shift his domestic team. He has requested the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to play for the Goa team. If MCA approves his request, then we will see him playing for the Goa team in the upcoming domestic season.

The reason behind this shift is not clear, but reports say that the Goa Cricket Association has offered him the captaincy to play for their team. In a news report, the secretary of the Goa Cricket Association, Shamba Dessai, has said that they welcome Jaiswal to their team if he wants to play, also he will likely lead the team.

Reports suggest that Jaiswal is looking for a leadership role and more responsibility to shape his career further. Goa, which hasn’t been a dominant force in domestic cricket, sees Jaiswal as a big name who can bring experience and elevate their game. But the big question remains – is this move a strategic step or too early in his career?

Jaiswal’s Mumbai Domestic Career

For Mumbai, Jaiswal has always been a key player. This left-handed opening batter caught everyone’s attention with his performance in the Under-19 World Cup. The same form he carried in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In his first-class career, played for Mumbai, he scored 3712 runs in 36 games with an outstanding average of 60.85 including a knock of 265. In List A, he has played 33 games where he scored 1526 runs with a 52.62 average. He has also scored double hundred in list A for Mumbai.  Here are his domestic career stats for the Mumbai team:

Is Jaiswal Rushing Things Too Soon?

This is not the first time when Jaiswal has made such a bold decision in his career. In IPL also, he wanted to lead the Rajasthan Royals. However, the team decided to go with Riyan Parag when Sanju was injured. Now Jaiswal’s hunger for captaincy led him to switch to his domestic team. 

There is no doubt that Jaiswal has immense talent. However, it has been only 2-3 years for him to be part of the senior Indian cricket team. His seat in T20I and ODI is still not permanent. Experts believe that he should focus on his batting and secure his place in at least 2 formats of the game before taking the burden of captaincy. 

Other Players Who Shifted Domestic Teams From Mumbai to Goa

Jaiswal is not the only player who is going to shift his team from Mumbai to Goa. Before him, two more players went to Goa after playing for Mumbai.

1. Arjun Tendulkar – Arjun, the son of Sachin Tendulkar, has earlier switched his team from Mumbai to Goa. He shifted his team to provide the shape to his cricket career, as in Mumbai he was not getting enough chances. 
2. Siddhesh Lad –  The “Crisis Man” of the Mumbai team, also did not get enough chances post covid pandemic. He switched his team from Mumbai to Goa to get more game time. However, he rejoined the Mumbai team later after playing the 2022-23 season in Goa. 

Now, Jaiswal will be the third player to switch his team from Mumbai to Goa. 

Final Thoughts

The decision of Jaiwal to move from Mumbai to Goa can either be a game-changing or career-breaking choice. The burden of captaincy will surely hamper his batting skills. But if he manages to handle this pressure and performs exceptionally in both leadership and batting, then it can be a major move for his career. So, is this a smart move or a career gamble?
