The final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is turning out to be one of the most exciting ones. After so many turns in the first two days, the match is still hanging in the balance. Day 2 was full of action and kept everyone guessing.

Fans, as well as people who follow the game closely for predictions, are wondering what Day 3 will bring. Here is a full breakdown of the match so far, along with today match prediction for day 3.

Position of Match:

Right now, the match is not tilted fully towards any team. On Day 1, England had the upper hand as they bowled India out for just 224.

At one point, it was 206/6, and India looked like they might cross 300 if Sundar and Karun Nair stayed at the crease longer. But England made sure to remove Nair early on Day 2 and then got rid of Sundar in the next over.

India’s Innings on Day 2:

India resumed Day 2 with some hope, expecting their lower order to stretch the total. But Karun Nair was out soon after his fifty, and then Sundar followed. The remaining tailenders couldn’t survive much as India went from 220/7 to 224 all out.

England bowlers were excellent, especially Siraj and Krishna, who took 4 wickets each. The pitch had an uneven bounce, and the Indian lower order couldn’t deal with it.

England’s Collapse:

Though the pitch was not easy, England’s openers had different plans. Crawley and Duckett started the innings with aggressive shots and scored quickly. They added 92 runs in just under 13 overs. Crawley scored 64, and Duckett made 43.

Akash Deep removed Duckett, and the momentum slightly shifted. After that, England struggled. Brook managed a fine half-century (53), but the lower middle order didn’t support much. They went from 175/4 to 247 all out, giving England only a 23-run lead.

Last Session Drama:

India came to bat in the last session of Day 2 and needed to play cautiously. However, Jaiswal went on the attack and scored a quickfire 50. Rahul was looking good but got out to a good delivery by Josh Tongue. Then Sudharsan fell LBW to Atkinson.

Akash Deep came in as the nightwatchman and stayed till the end of play. At stumps, India were 75/2, leading by 52 runs. Jaiswal was unbeaten and looked in good form.

Records on Day 2:

  • Siraj became the highest wicket-taker of the series with 18 wickets.
  • England hit 50+ runs in just 7 overs, equalling their fastest against India in Test matches.
  • Duckett and Crawley have now scored 984 runs in 18 innings as a pair, the most by an England opening duo against India.
  • Joe Root crossed 2000 Test runs against India, becoming the top scorer from any nation against India in this format.

Today Match Prediction for Day 3:

At this moment, India has a slight edge, mainly because of the solid start in the second innings and the presence of Jaiswal at the crease. The pitch is playing tricks and batting will not be easy. However, India still has batters like Gill, Karun Nair, Jadeja, Jurel, and Sundar to come. If two or three of them give decent contributions, India can aim for 300 in the second innings.

A lead of 275 or more will be very challenging for England on this wicket. The surface is not offering much help for batters, and run-making will be difficult. If India bats well in the first session, they can put pressure back on England.

In the today match prediction, everything will depend on how Gill and Jaiswal bat. If you are a prediction lover, then keep an eye on these players, who will decide the outcome of this game. However, whatever the result will be, but surely Day 3 of match 5 will surely be an exciting day of cricket.

Note: This is a match prediction, based on data and player form. The overall match outcome can be different from this.

According to the experts, a 300-run score will be good for India. They can easily defend it on a tough pitch at The Oval.

  • For India - Jaiswal, Gill, and Jadeja
  • For England, Atkinson and Tongue
