BCCI Takes Strict Action Against Ishant Sharma After SRH vs GT Game
Ishant Sharma is one of the few players who have been a part of IPL since its inaugural season. However, the IPL 2025 is not going in his favour. He could not show the same magic with the ball in the three games played this season, and now faced a challenging outing.
Firstly, he gave away 53 runs in his 4 overs quota with the worst economy rate of 13.25 in the SRH vs GT game. But his bad day didn’t end there. On top of his poor performance, he also got penalized by the BCCI for breaking a rule. He got 1 demerit point for this and also had to pay a fine of 25% of his match fees.
What was the Incident?
In the game, Ishant was expected to deliver some good overs, but he couldn’t get any breakthroughs and kept giving runs. His bowling performance was disappointing, but what made things worse was the breach of conduct he was accused of. After the match, the BCCI took action and handed him the penalty.
Ishant accepted the charges, knowing he was at fault. But it’s still tough because a performance like that and then getting penalized on top of it, is a bad mix for any player.
Under Which Rule Did Ishant Sharma Get Penalized?
It’s from Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This rule is about a player’s behaviour during the match. It’s there to make sure players act professionally, both on and off the field. If a player does something that’s not right, like unsporting behaviour or something that goes against the spirit of the game, they can get penalized under this rule. Ishant’s situation was one of those times.
Under this rule, the demerit points are given when a player violates certain standards. And if a player keeps getting demerit points, it could lead to bigger issues, like a suspension or ban from future matches. So, it’s a serious thing to keep in mind.
