Finn Allen Breaks Chris Gayle’s Most Sixes Record in the First Match of MLC

The new season of Major League Cricket (MLC) started with a bang. In the very first game, Finn Allen, the player of the San Francisco Unicorns, broke the big record of Universe Boss Chris Gayle. 

This kiwi batter has scored 151 runs in just 51 balls against Washington Freedom. In his innings, he has smashed 19 sixes, which is a new record in T20 cricket. He broke Gayle’s record of 18 sixes made in BPL, 2024. 

The match was played against Washington Freedom. Allen opened the batting, and from the start, he was smashing every bowler. It was raining sixes. Let’s talk more about this crazy innings and how it changed the record books.

Finn Allen’s Powerful Knock and New Record

Finn Allen didn’t just make runs; he created history. In just 34 balls, he completed his century. That alone is a big achievement. But he didn’t stop there. He went on to score 151 runs in total from just 51 balls. His strike rate was 296.07, which means he was hitting almost 3 runs every ball.

But the main highlight was the number of sixes. He hit 19 sixes in his innings. This broke the old record of 18 sixes by West Indies legend Chris Gayle. Gayle had made that record in 2017 during a Bangladesh Premier League match while playing for Rangpur Riders. Another player named Sahil had also hit 18 sixes while playing for Estonia in 2024. But now, both records are gone because of Allen.

Just Missed the Highest Individual T20 Score by 25 Runs

While Finn Allen broke the sixes record, he almost broke another record. Chris Gayle also holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket — 175 not out. He made that while playing for RCB in IPL 2013. Allen made 151, so he missed the record by just 25 runs.

Still, this is the second-best T20 innings in terms of sixes and overall impact. If he had stayed a bit longer, maybe he could have broken that too. But even then, scoring 151 in T20 is something very rare. And doing it in a major league match makes it more special.

He also hit 5 fours along with the 19 sixes, which means 124 of his 151 runs came just from boundaries. It was a dream knock for him and his team.

San Francisco Unicorns Won the Match Easily

With the help of Allen’s stormy batting, San Francisco Unicorns posted a massive total of 269 runs for 5 wickets. This is one of the highest team totals in T20 cricket. Washington Freedom won the toss and chose to bowl first, but that move didn’t work out well for them.

When Washington came out to chase 270 runs, their batting collapsed. They were all out for 146 runs in just 13.1 overs. That means the Unicorns won the match by 123 runs — a huge margin in T20 games. Glenn Maxwell was the captain of Washington Freedom, and he had a tough day as both captain and player.

Allen was clearly the hero of the match. With this kind of start, the MLC 2025 season is now set on fire.
