WTC 2023-25 Final | Australia & South Africa Announce Their Squads
Everything is set for the World Test Championship 2023–25 final. Both Australia and South Africa have announced their squad for this much-awaited game. This game will be played at England’s iconic cricket ground – Lord’s Cricket Ground. It is scheduled to be played from June 11 to June 15, 2025.
For Australia, it’s about defending their title. They won the previous WTC final and would love nothing more than to add another trophy to their cabinet. On the other hand, South Africa has never reached this far in the WTC format before. For them, it’s a golden opportunity to lift the title for the very first time and make history.
Australia Squad for WTC Final
Australia’s squad brings the right balance of experience and quality. The batting line up has the backbone of Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith, both of whom have been the standout performers for the team in this WTC cycle. Khawaja leads the run charts for Australia with a stunning 1,422 runs. His consistency at the top of the order has been crucial in setting up big totals. Right behind him is Smith, who has stacked up 1,324 runs — both averaging above 41, proving how vital they’ve been.
Travis Head isn’t far behind either, contributing nearly 1,200 runs in the cycle and playing the role of the counter-attacker. Together, these three form the core of Australia’s batting unit heading into the final.
On the bowling front, Pat Cummins leads not just as a captain but as their most lethal weapon. He has claimed 73 wickets so far in the WTC cycle — the most by any Aussie and second overall behind India’s Jasprit Bumrah. Mitchell Starc isn’t too far behind with 72 wickets of his own, and Nathan Lyon, with 66 wickets, remains a key figure in the spin department.
The combination of Starc and Cummins, especially in England conditions, could prove to be a nightmare for the Proteas. If Josh Hazlewood is fully fit, that just adds one more layer of trouble for the South African batters. Here is the Australian squad for the WTC Final:

South Africa Squad for WTC Final
South Africa is arriving at the final with a bowling-heavy side and a fresh belief. Temba Bavuma will lead the team, and also the batting line up. Despite playing only seven matches in this cycle, Bavuma has scored 609 runs at an average of 60.90 — that’s the highest average among Protea batters in the current campaign.
David Bedingham is the top run-getter for the team with 645 runs, although his average is around 34. Aiden Markram also brings in solid experience with 572 runs, and he’ll need to play a major role if South Africa wants to hold up against Australia’s quality attack.
But make no mistake — South Africa’s strength lies in their bowling. Kagiso Rabada is leading the pace battery with 47 wickets at an excellent average of 19.97. Then there’s Keshav Maharaj, who has taken 40 wickets with an average just over 20. The only challenge for Maharaj could be the conditions in England, where spinners usually don’t get much assistance. Here is South Africa’s squad for the WTC Final:
- Temba Bavuma (captain)
- Tony de Zorzi
- Aiden Markram
- Wiaan Mulder
- Marco Jansen
- Kagiso Rabada
- Keshav Maharaj
- Lungi Ngidi
- Corbin Bosch
- Kyle Verreynne
- David Bedingham
- Tristan Stubbs
- Ryan Rickelton
- Senuran Muthusamy
- Dane Paterson
