Djokovic Still Going Strong in Wimbledon at Age 38

Novak Djokovic again shows why people call him one of the greatest players in tennis. Even though he is now 38, which is not a young age in this sport, he reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2025. This is not the first, second or fifth time, but his 16th time.

He had a tough match in the Round of 16. Against him, there was a young Australian player, Alex de Minaur, who has 9 ATP single titles. In the first set, Djokovic lost it badly. Score was 1-6, and people started thinking maybe this is the end now. Maybe his age is finally showing. But Djokovic is not a player who gives up easily.

After losing the first set, he came back. He won the next set by 6-4. With the same margin, he won the next two sets as well and won the game by 3-1 margin. The way he changed the game after the first set, it looked like a master showing how it’s done.

Djokovic’s Comeback

By looking at the final score, it is easy to say that it was a one-sided match from Djokovic and he won it easily. But this was not the story.

First of all, Djokovic lost the first set. He did come back in 2nd and 3rd set, but in the fourth one, Minaur had taken the lead of 4-1. He was going to win this set easily. However, Djokovic has shown brilliant tennis from here. He scores 5 points in a row and ensures that the game will not go to the 5th set.

He won five games in a row. He took control. Some people say it’s luck, but it’s not luck. It’s an experience. It’s mental strength. Djokovic does not panic. He plays smart. That’s what he did here too.

One important thing of the match— Roger Federer was watching the match from Royal Box. Djokovic even joked that whenever Roger comes, he loses. But not this time. He said, “Maybe the curse is broken now.”

Big Names in Quarterfinals

Djokovic is not the only one. Some big players also made it to the quarterfinals in the men’s category.

  • Taylor Fritz – This USA player also made his way to the quarterfinals. He reached without completing the match, as his opponent, Jordan Thompson, could not continue it due to injury. However, Fritz was leading the game by 6-1, 3-0, when this happened.
  • Karen Khachanov – Russian player Karen also reached the quarterfinal of the tournament. He won the game against Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.
  • Carlos Alcaraz – Carlos, who is  favourite to win this year’s title, has also reached to quarterfinal. He won against Andrey Rublev in four sets. Alcaraz is defending champion, so fans have big hopes.
  • Cameron Norrie – This British player also made his way to quarterfinals. He won against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry. It went to five sets. In the end, Norrie won, and the home crowd was super happy.

So now the quarterfinal matches are looking exciting. Djokovic, Fritz, Alcaraz, Khachanov, and Norrie — all in top 8.

Bad Luck for India: Yuki Bhambri’s Run Ends

India’s last hope in Wimbledon was Yuki Bhambri in men’s doubles. Yuki had the match with American player Robert Galloway, who was his partner in the game. Both played well, and reached to Round of 16.

In the game of Round of 16, they again showed the power game and after losing first set by 4-6 they won the second one (6-3 . The last set was also close, but they eventually lost it by close margine of 6-7. The match was against fourth-seeded pair — Marcel Granollers (Spain) and Horacio Zeballos (Argentina).

That last tie-break was intense. Bhambri and Galloway gave a good fight, but in the end, they missed some key points. With this loss, Indian journey in Wimbledon is now over. Bhambri had a good run, and maybe next year he comes back stronger.

Women’s Side Also Full of Big Performances

On the women’s side, there were also many matches that people really enjoyed watching, and some of them were quite surprising too. Aryna Sabalenka, who is World No. 1 and also someone who always plays strong tennis, she won her match against Elise Mertens in straight sets, which shows she is in good touch again. Then there was Laura Siegemund from Germany, who is not that big name, but she played really smart and defeated Solana Sierra from Argentina without much trouble, and that too in a match which many didn’t expect her to win.

Amanda Anisimova, that American girl who was not seen in form since long, she also made a good comeback by winning her match in three sets against Linda Noskova. And then there were players like Belinda Bencic from Switzerland and also Liudmila Samsonova from Russia, who somehow found their way into the quarterfinals too. It’s not like they were completely unexpected, but still, not everyone thought they would come this far. That’s what makes the women’s draw feel more open this time — like a mix of the usual top names and also some others who are showing that, yes, they can also play on this big stage and they’re not here just to fill numbers.

What Will Happen Next at Wimbledon?

Now quarterfinals are coming. Then after that, the semifinals, and then the final. All matches are knockout now, so every match is a pressure match. In the men’s category Djokovic, Alcaraz and Fritz can win the tournament, while in women’s, Sabalenka, Bencic and Anisimova are the top contenders. Finals will be played on the weekend. Women’s final is as usual on Saturday, and the men’s final is on Sunday. Catch all the latest sports stories only on Khelostar News.

He will play Flavio Cobolli, a young player from Italy.

No, India’s Yuki Bhambri lost in doubles. Now no Indian left.

Final is next weekend — women’s on Saturday and men’s on Sunday.

In men: Djokovic, Alcaraz, Fritz. In women: Sabalenka, Bencic, Anisimova maybe.
